If we had been around in 1909 we could have all gone to Professor Bickerton’s Fun Park in Wainoni.
Held on public holidays, this was an event not to be missed. Your one shilling included the tram fare, or you could take the afternoon motor boat which left from the Barbadoes Street Bridge at 2pm. You would be greeted by the Rowse brothers- Fred, Eddie and Dolf, dressed in their dashing uniforms.

The Park covered 82 acres in Wainoni, with picnic grounds and space for 20,000 visitors, and a bicycle stand for 1000 machines. Entertainment included rifle shooting, sports competitions, concerts, Punch and Judy shows,, baby shows, and hot air balloon ascents, to name just a few. A highlight of the day was the mock naval battles.
