This was a popular feature in the 1940s 50s and 60s when they marched down the main street to the school every Thursday morning for many years.
This occasion brought out all the mothers who waved embarrassingly at their children.
The original band was suggested by Captain A Owles in 1914 after seeing a similar band in Australia.
There were several instructors over the years and in the 40s Mr Ernie Jayet built the band up on sound lines. Mr R Fitchett, Mr E Liddy, and Mr A Cockburn followed with the training and they played at fairs, concerts, the Primary Schools festival, and also at Mr Liddy’s wedding. The New Brighton museum is proud to be the guardians of big base drum and some of the other memorabilia from the band
