Kia ora and welcome to the ‘New Brighton and Districts Historical Society and Museum’ digital website.
Starting in May 2020 this is an ongoing project to add to the website an enormous amount of information, photographs, home videos, interviews and more… Thanks to the dedicated volunteers for their ongoing voluntary work in staffing the museum each day and on getting the thousands of items loaded onto this website – this will take years to complete.
Boundaries had to be made that include much of the east: Aranui, Avondale, Avonside, Bexley, Bromley, Burwood, Dallington, Linwood, North Shore, New Brighton, North New Brighton, North Shore, Parklands, Prestons, Queenspark, Shirley, South Brighton, South Shore, Tumara Park, Waimairi Beach, Waitikiri, Wainoni, and Windsor.
If you have original photographs and information that you think would be a good addition to the site or would like to volunteer in some way please contact us.
Funding: “This website has been enabled by the generous donation from Rob Meier in memory of his parents Merle and Laurie Meier, long time New Brighton residents”. Ongoing development of this website is due to funding from various charities. Thank you to these organisations too.
Thank you Rob from all the team.
Thanks also to Daniel from ITstuff[ed] for creating this website and making it affordable.

The movies include a wide range of comedies, dramas, Westerns and musicals. Feel free to collect a newsletter from the museum with the latest movie details on the front. You’re also welcome to call and ask what the movie is if that’s easier
If you have a request, then see Quintin or Jim and they will see what they can do.
